Training
Surveying for bats generally requires a licence from Natural England (because bats are legally protected from disturbance). Colleen & Paul are both experienced trainers with Natural England licences to undertake surveys for training purposes. Trainees are required to undertake a range of surveys to experience a variety of roost types and species at different times of the year. Trainees are taught to identify and handle bats; this is an essential part of some surveys and a requirement for anyone supervising destructive searches under EPS development licences. A good understanding of bat ecology, legislation and health & safety are also integral parts of any training offered. Experience is also offered in a range of mitigation techniques.
ECS offers classroom and field based bat detector workshops for consultancy staff (including time expansion and frequency division) and training for individuals in the more advanced survey techniques.
Colleen has a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and over 20 years experience organising and running training courses in a range of survey and habitat management skills.
